Corriere della sera
The Corriere della Sera was founded in 1876 in Milan, and has come to be one of the most well known and respected daily papers in Italy. It's known for the high quality of its stories, columns, and other information, and its authoritative stance.
A readership of more than two millions
Many important and well known journalists have worked for this paper at one time or another, including the novelist Dino Buzzati, and a number of other intellectuals and writers like Indro Montanellis, Oriana Fallaci, Eugenio Montale, Piere Paolo Pasolini and Italo Calvino.
The current editor is Paolo Mieli, and the print edition has a circulation of over six hundred thousand, with a readership of more than two million.
Local Editions and Supplemental Material
The paper has its deepest foundations in Milan. However, in addition to that city, it's present in many other regions, and even has additional local publications. These are presented as a supplement to the national edition.
These supplements include the Corriere Veneto in Venice, the Corriere di Bologna, the Corriere del Mezzogiorno in Apulia and Campania, the Corriere del Trentono and the Corriere dell' Alto Adige. In the near future, the Corriere di Firenze is also supposed to hit the news stands.
There's also an extensive series of weekly and monthly supplements to the Corriere della Sera, as well as a number of magazines. The ViviMilano, CorrierEconomia, Corriere della Sera Magazine, Io Donna, and Style Magazine are a few of the options.
Internet Presence
In addition to the print edition, the paper also has a website at http://corriere.it. It sees over three hundred million page views every month, and nearly nine million unique visitors. Why is this site so popular? It provides in depth coverage of international and Italian news in real time!
Complementing the main subject matter of the website, there are also channels and sections based on themes, subjects, and regions. Viaggi, for instance, covers Travel, while Casa covers home related topics. ViviMilano is all about life and events in Milan, and Salute covers topics related to health.
Multimedia and Portable Support
In addition to text formatted stories, there's also a wealth of multimedia material. Online news shows and columns are available. There's even a version available for people visiting the site on their PDA or mobile phone. News updates are available in MMS and SMS formats, too.
Classified Websites
Add to the main website a series of classified sites, and you'll realize how useful this publication really is. Automobili.com covers cars. TrovoCasa.it is all about property and homes, and TrovoLavoro is for careers and jobs.
Special Tip: English Version
Did you know that there exists even an English version of corriere della sera. The italian version has an english counterpart and is published completely in English. Indeed, many Italians consider this italian newspaper the New York Times of Italy.
