Italian Bread Recipes

Learn why italian bread recipes play a dominant role in every italian's life and get of course also our best bread recipe tip.

Part of social occasion & hospitability

In Italian cuisine, the sharing of bread is part of the social occasion of the dinner, and breaking bread is still a traditional part of hospitality.

However, the bread isn't just an appetizer. It's an excuse to linger over the meal, dipping it into a savory sauce and continuing conversations about the topics of the day. Served properly, the bread is hot out of the oven, with a flaky crust and a white, airy texture on the inside. It will look like a giant hot cross bun.

My favorite italian bread recipe

Ingredients:

3 cups of bread flour
2 cups of warm water
1/4 oz of packet yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp of olive oil.

Mix the yeast with the warm water and sugar, and let it start its actions; while the yeast is going, mix in the flour and salt in a food processor, using the heavy blade. After they're blended, gently add in the yeast and water mixture, and knead for a minute, two at most.

After kneading, put the dough in a greased bowl; warning – it'll be sticky. Cover it and let it rise until it's doubled, then punch it down. Separate it into two loaves, and put each one on a greased cookie sheet or bread pan. Let the loaves rise until they've doubled again.

Drizzle a half tea spoon of olive oil on the top of each loaf after they've doubled, and bake in a preheated oven at 450 degrees, misting it with water once or twice to harden the crust.

For a chewier bread, drop the water to 1 and a half cups, and increase the baking time to 20 minutes – this bread is good for just about everything.

Special Gift Tip

A great idea is also to bake italian bread and make it part of an italian gift basket together with italian wine, salami and cheese. A real italian homemade gift. What could be more delicious...
