Italian Christmas Cookies

Italian Christmas Cookies are one of the treats that are always associated with the festivities and excitement of the holiday season. Baking can not only result in some great tasting goodies, it is one of the best ways to enjoy the company of both family and friends.

Italians in particular know the beauty of good foods and this time of year is a busy season in many Italian homes. While you can always purchase wonderful Italian baked goods, you can also enjoy making these in your own kitchen.



Here are some great recipes for Italian christmas cookies that are so easy to make, and the rich taste and wonderful aromas will have everyone begging you to make additional batches.

Italian Wine Cookies

For Italian Wine Cookies just like those made in the Old Country:

• 3 c - vegetable oil 1 and a half cup of white wine
• 1 ½ c- of red wine and 1 ½ c- of white wine
• A pinch of cinnamon
• Mix the ingredients and bring to a boil, allow this to boil for 1 minute
• 8 c- plain flour
• 1 Tbsp of honey, 3 Tbsp of salt and 2 beaten eggs. Now mix these ingredients and then add these to the flour.
• Blend well by stirring, and then add the boiled mixture
• Now you will knead this dough until it is of a non-sticky
texture, you may have to add a little flour to get the right consistency.
• Separate your dough into shapes about the size of a small golf ball and then roll them over a ravioli board or other grooved implement.
• These will be fried in deep hot oil at 400 degrees.
• After removing the cookies from the oil, they can be dipped in honey or powdered sugar.

Almond Italian Christmas Cookies

Almond cookies are a standard Italian favorite.

For deliciously aromatic almond cookies, you can bring a taste of Italy into your home by using the following recipe.

• 2 pounds almond paste
• 1 c all purpose flour
• 8 egg whites
• 2 c white sugar
• 2 c confectioners' sugar
• 2 c sliced, blanched almonds

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease or line the cookie sheets. Mix together all of the ingredients in a large glass bowl, but place the almonds in a separate bowl. The mixture that results will be very sticky to the touch.

Take rounded Teaspoons of the dough and drop them one at a time into a small bowl containing the almonds and coat them with these crunchy nuts.

Place the balls about 2 inches apart on the cookie sheets and bake until golden brown, about 15-18 minutes. Cool these cookies on the sheets for the first 2-3 minutes and then place them on a wire rack and dust them with additional confectioners’ sugar.
